Thoughts from Somewhere in California

Listen, I love music. Like really, really love music. I pride myself on having a vast knowledge of music. When someone asks what genre of music I listen to, it is hard to pinpoint it because I just love music. My memory bank of song lyrics is expansive and impressive (to me anyway). I can recite raps by heart from some of the more difficult rappers – specifically Eminem, ODB, and OutKast. Note: I include Eminem in there because he is long-winded & his raps can be difficult to keep up with.

Anyway.

As much as I love music, I equally respect musicians and songwriters. It is a skill and an art. I recognize that; I also recognize I am not skilled in that area of expertise.

All that said: I despise long outros on songs. Like D-E-S-P-I-S-E. I also despise soul patches and I put those two things on equal ground when it comes to things I have a total disdain for. Ha. I feel bad to feel as strongly as I do about how much the outro for this particular song pisses me off. I understand the point of it – to showcase the musician’s ability (specifically the guitarist) and I am sure there are people who like it (me, not included). I have even tried to like it, but I just can’t. I know it sounds extreme, but when I hear it I get really annoyed. I really don’t want to feel this way. I really love this song. It is so good. The lead vocalist has a great voice & the message of the song is great, but the outro just makes me cringe.

Despite how I feel about the outro, I will continue to listen to the song because it is so good. I guess I hate soul patches more, after all.
