Bill & I have been talking about getting an RV for as long as I can remember. He brought up the idea to me a long time ago, and I wasn’t totally sold on it. To me, it seemed like something old people do, and we are not old people. Finally, after several years I agreed that once we were both retired, we could get an RV and do a year of full-time RVing around the United States.
About a month ago, we found out we were going to be moving to Washington [state] later this year. The housing market in Washington, like everywhere else, is ridiculous, so after much contemplation we decided that we definitely weren’t going to buy a house there. We are selling our house in Virginia, though. Since we decided not to buy a house, we are going to live on base when we get to Washington. After we made the decision to not buy, but live on base, we thought it was a good time to purchase an RV.
I don’t know if you’ve ever looked at the map of the United States, but Washington is pretty far from Virginia. We have four pets, and two of those pets are cats. The cats aren’t going to like traveling regardless if they are in a train, a plane, an automobile, or an RV. We already know that. But hopefully riding in an RV will be a little less horrible than riding in a car for 9 days.
Overall, we felt like with as much as we like to travel and go new places, an RV was a good purchase for us, and now was as good a time as any. As much as I enjoy traveling, I do not like staying in hotels. I mean I do it because I have to, but it is never my preference. I’d much rather stay in an Air BnB or something like that. Hotels are expensive. They rarely include kitchens. They charge too much for pets. I love the idea of having my own space to use [bonus points for the included kitchen] when we travel. <–all good reasons for owning an RV!
Besides driving cross country to Washington, we will also be going to Texas soon, so make sure you join us on all of our adventures!
See you on the road!

I would love to follow your travels!
We have been thinking about buying an RV and doing the same thing as you.
Safe travels😄
